Grand Prix Edventure

Europa Park - Rust, Germany

About the Attraction

Opened for the 2025 season at Europa-Park, Grand Prix Edventure marks the debut of the Gameplay Theater. Developed in collaboration with Mack Rides, the attraction transforms guests into competitors in a fast-paced racing adventure that combines motion, media, and interactivity on a grand scale.

Grand Prix Edventure is located in Europa-Park’s Luxemburger Platz area and replaces the former Journey to Rulantica attraction. Guests board one of 18 gondolas positioned around a large rotating platform. Each gondola rotates 180 degrees between scenes, allowing riders to face either inward or outward as the show unfolds across ten distinct environments.

Themed locations include Paris, Switzerland, Italy and London, each presented through a mix of large shared screens and smaller individual projection surfaces. The six-minute experience features two full rotations around the platform, giving guests a sense of continuous movement through different parts of the race.

The queue and pre-show area are also richly detailed, guiding visitors through a sequence that begins in a television news van, transitions to a nostalgic Mack Rides workshop, and ends in a modern racing garage before boarding.

Interactive Gameplay

Every rider participates using a custom-designed interactive device developed by Lagotronics Projects. Throughout the experience, guests collect “energy” by targeting interactive elements on the screens and in the environment. Each scene features different types of interactions and effects, ensuring that gameplay remains varied and intuitive.

The system allows 144 players to interact simultaneously, all connected through Lagotronics’ proprietary gameplay engine.

Technical Highlights

  • 10 scenes across 26 projection surfaces
  • 28 high-resolution 3D projectors
  • 18 ride vehicles accommodating 8 players each
  • 144 simultaneous players
  • Throughput of approximately 1,100 guests per hour
  • Ride duration: around 6 minutes

Lagotronics Projects supplied the complete interactive system and audiovisual installation, integrating projection, lighting, and media playback to deliver a synchronized and responsive experience.

From Compact to Large-Scale

Earlier in 2025, Lagotronics Projects launched the first Gameplay Theater S at Paultons Park in the United Kingdom. That attraction, Ghostly Manor, was developed entirely in-house and demonstrates the same rotating gameplay concept at a more compact scale.

At Europa-Park, the system was expanded to the L variant, with higher capacity, extended ride length, and large-format projection. Together, these two installations highlight how the Gameplay Theater platform can be adapted to fit both regional parks and major theme park environments.

The Future of Interactive Entertainment

With Grand Prix Edventure, Lagotronics Projects has demonstrated how interactive dark ride technology can scale to a flagship park environment. The collaboration with Mack Rides and Mack Animation brought together ride engineering, storytelling, and gameplay in a single integrated system that engages hundreds of guests at once.

Following the success of both the S and L variants, the Gameplay Theater platform now serves as a flexible blueprint for the next generation of interactive attractions.
